Sheetz Resumes Take-Out Beer Sales

HARRISBURG, Pa. —

Sheetz is back in the beer business.

On Wednesday, company lawyers and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board worked together to win a state Supreme Court appeal, which temporarily gave Sheetz its license back.

Last week, a court decision halted take-out beer sales at the 17th Street Altoona Sheetz store.

"Based on the sales before the suspension, our customers really like the convenience. They're going to be happy that the sales have resumed," Cortez said.

Liquor Control Board spokeswoman Dawn Petrosky said the board wanted the state Supreme Court to review the Commonwealth Court decision that said Sheetz's beer-sales license required the company to allow beer to be consumed on the premises.

The Commonwealth Court ruled late last week that Sheetz was misusing the beer license issued by the PLCB. The judge said Sheetz was in violation because the store did not allow in-store beer consumption. Instead, the convenience store had been selling beer for take-out only.

Sheetz officials were expected to hold a news conference Thursday afternoon.
