Altoona police are investigating a shooting from Wednesday night that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.

Police said that the shooting took place at 125 East 3rd Avenue.

Police said the boy, who was a student at Altoona area school district, was fatally shot but would not release his name.

Investigators are stressing that the public is "in no danger."

Witnesses said one person was taken into custody, but police said no charges have been filed and no further information will be released until the end of their investigation.

Altoona Area School District officials tell 6 News grief counselors will be available at the school when students return from holiday break.  Those officials did confirm he was a student at their high school.
