Shoppers Pack Local Stores For Black Friday Bargains

Shoppers packed stores across the Alleghenies on Black Friday, and Old Man Winter didn't stop bargain hunters from trying to find the best bang for their buck.

Some people in Cambria County headed out in the wee hours of the morning, like a mother and daughter who went to Walmart at 2:30 a.m. for toys, clothes, appliances and a huge flat-screen television.

At the Galleria, people flooded stores like Bath and Body Works with shopping lists and coupons in hand.

"We love Black Friday. We're not looking for anything special -- if we get a bargain we get a bargain. If not, then that's all right. We just have fun," said Stephanie Grigg, of Sidman.

In Blair County, the Logan Valley Mall was packed as of noon. A WJAC-TV crew had a tough time navigating the parking lot to find a place to park. Inside, hundreds of shoppers were doing their best to hunt down this year's hot-ticket items.

Black Friday gets its name because it traditionally was the day when huge crowds would push stores into "the black," or profitability. But despite the frenzy, experts said overall spending this weekend should be about the same as last year and it will probably not be the busiest shopping day of the season, which is usually the last Saturday before Christmas.
