Shopping Advice For Plus-size Women

Plus-size clothing is getting more fashionable this fall. Good Housekeeping's fashion experts have some advice on how plus-size women can find the most flattering looks when they go shopping.

"Plus size fashion used to be about covering up," says Jessica Baumgardner, Senior Editor, Good Housekeeping. "It used to be shapeless moo-moos." And now its more about accentuating your curves. Its fashionable. Its fitted. Its fun. There are a lot of fabrics nowadays that have a good amount of stretch and thats really flattering for any woman, actually, but particularly for plus-size fashion. Really bright, graphic prints with darker backgrounds are quite slimming and attractive.

Good Housekeeping says that pants with a little bit of Lycra offer a very comfortable fit. And you don't need an elasticized waist band with them.

I like the way the jeans feel because I like a little extra pull to my hips," says Diane Fields, plus-size customer. "And the sparkles, I love sparkles. I have a sparkly smile and it works all together.

For a fall coat, Good Housekeeping says that chocolate brown is the new black. Experts say chocolate brown is every bit as slimming as your basic black.

"Its easy to sort of get yourself stuck in a comfort zone, especially if you are above a size 12," says Erica McGlone, sales associate. "But, youll feel much better about yourself, that you have all of these options. You should definitely be proud about your body, and there are tons of styles here that really accentuate the shape and celebrate the shape.

"You know, I have curves and Im not afraid of them, you know? says Fields.

Good Housekeeping says that women who prefer a graphic print should look for a tailored cut and a dark background. Those will help offer a slimmer look.
