Siblings Seriously Injured In Separate Crashes

MILESBURG, Pa. —

One Centre County family said support from the community has been pouring in after two of their children were seriously injured in two accidents in a six-week span.

Tina Shirk told WJAC-TV that her 21-year-old son, Tyler Lykens, is recovering from four surgeries and is listed in critical condition at Hershey Medical Center.

Officials said Lykens suffered serious internal, hip and leg injuries after his Volkswagen sedan collided with an SUV on a curvy stretch of Route 144 near Milesburg on Friday night.

Four medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene to transport Lykens, and three passengers inside his car, to area hospitals.

State Police said black ice played a role in the crash.

As family members care for Tyler at Hershey Medical Center, Shirk told WJAC-TV that she is at home with her 14-year-old daughter, who was recently released from the hospital after an accident.

Officials said Sage Lykens was on a four-wheeler with two other Bald Eagle Area High School students on Nov. 5, when the ATV crashed in a remote area near Snow Shoe.

The teens were rushed to the hospital, after a hunter heard one of the injured teens screaming for help around 3 a.m.

Shirk said that her daughter faces months of recovery after suffering serious leg and head injuries.

A fund has been set up to help the families pay for medical expenses for the four teenagers injured in Friday’s crash on Route 144.

Jason Simcisko of Moshannon and Jessie Richmond have been treated and released from Geisinger Hospital in Danville.

Sarah George was last listed in good condition at Hershey Medical Center.

Donations can be mailed to the George-Lykens-Rishmond-Simcisko Fund at 116 Benner Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
