Six Missing Residents Accounted For After Huntingdon County Blaze

Officials in Huntingdon County said they have accounted for six residents who were reported missing after an assisted living home fire.

One senior citizen died after a fire tore through the Deforrest Apartment complex shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday in a room on the second floor of the nine-story building.

Fire officials said they were able to contain the blaze to the room where it broke out, but the rest of the building sustained smoke and water damage.

The building is home to elderly people, including many who require assisted living. Officials said 23 residents were put up in local hotels and about 70 other are staying with relatives.

Administrators and staff were scheduled to meet with residents and their families on Wednesday to update them on the status of the building.
