ALTOONA, Pa. —

They're the best of the best in Blair County. Figure skaters were sharpening their skates ad throwing double axels, salchows and lutz jumps Wednesday as they geared up for The Holiday Gala On Ice.

"You have to really. really train hard, and you learn a lot of life lessons too through competing," said 15-year-old Danielle Micaud. She has been figure skating for seven years.

"It's something different, something that not a lot of people can do. It takes a lot of talent," said Micaud.

Micaud and 50 other skaters will be putting their talent to the test Thursday at Galactic Ice, as they showing off their top-notch skills with a whole lot of fun.

"We have group numbers. They're not all solos out there. And the skaters range in age from about 5 to 73," said skating director John Kauffman.

From the Manger Carol to the Christmas Congo, the skaters of the Lakemont Figure Skating Club have teamed up with some "Ho-Ho Hockey" players, who are bringing their game -- the reindeer versus the penguins and Santa Claus is the referee.

"We get a lot of positive feedback, and it gets a lot of people interested in skating who maybe wouldn't have bothered to get out there and skate before," said Kauffman.

The show kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday. They will repeat the holiday performance at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
