Small Town In Somerset County Praying For Rain

About 70 people who live in the village of Blough in Quemahoning Township rely on a reservoir about two miles from the center of town. The recent dry weather has virtually dried it up.

Most residents who live on Front Street in Blough are used to it drying up around this time of year and have resorted to using wells. It's not always an easy solution. Most of the time there's high levels of sulfate in the water, turning everything from tubs to laundry orange.

"Especially this time of the year with the kids going back to school. My kids go to Catholic school and wear white shirts. Sometimes they turn orange from the iron in our well," said Kim Vatavuk, of Blough.

The Quemahoning Township Supervisor tells WJAC-TV they're working to get a grant that would allow Blough to tap into Conemaugh Township's water supply.
