Snow leads to accidents

By Bill Wadell

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. —

A series of accidents in Clearfield County on Tuesday afternoon are blamed on snow.

Dispatchers confirm one person was killed in a one car crash on Route 153 near Glen Richey.

All it took was a slight change in elevation for the switch from rain in DuBois to wet snow near Penfield.

It all started around 2:30 Tuesday, when 9-1-1 dispatchers were flooded with accident reports.

6 News cameras arrived to a SUV rolled over before emergency crews got to the scene. At least two children were hurt.  Good Samaritans pulled over and help performed first aid and warmed the injured in their own cars.

PennDot crews pretreated I-80 and were out plowing as soon as the snow started sticking. One woman driving to Ohio said she was slipping and sliding and couldn't believe how fast some cars and trucks were driving in the snow.

"Suddenly, it started hailing and the roads got all slick and we passed one, and then another, and then a third accident all within five miles at about the highest point on I-80,” said Angela Molinas.  “It was scary."
