Some Bedford County Residents To Get Tax Break

Some Bedford County residents will receive an additional 10 percent tax break this year because of the economy.

Commissioners made the decision after a controversial countywide property reassessment. As a result of the decision, people in seven municipalities will get 35 percent off the value that Tyler Technologies put on their properties.

The commissioners made the decision after hearing from residents who've experienced job loss and environmental problems like acid mine drainage in their water.

"This is an area that has been devastated. It was a mining area, and there's a lot of problems with water in that area," said Michael Herline, Bedford County commissioner.

The tax appeals process is scheduled to conclude Saturday.
