Some Local Drivers Find Relief From High Gas Prices

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

As gas prices continue to increase, so does the amount of people sharing rides on Camtran buses.

Camtran officials report a 17 percent increase in ridership in three weeks time.

"Last month to this month we've seen an increase of about 5,000 riders, which is a nice boost, and I think people are starting to think of us as a way to save money by riding the bus," Camtran Director Rose Lucey-Noll said.

Despite the increase in ridership, however, Camtran officials don't like seeing such a sharp increase in gas prices.

"It impacts us, too, because we have to put diesel in our buses," Noll said.

Noll said public transportation on the national level has also seen a sharp increase over the past several weeks.
