Somerset Co. 911 Center gets state award for emergency response efforts

By WJAC Web Staff and Kerri Corrado

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. —

The Somerset County 911 Center was honored by state departments this week for its emergency response coordination.

The center received the 2012 Pennsylvania State EMS Award for its emergency service response, including a March 14 collision between a school bus and tractor trailer.

The county's EMS workers said they will never forget receiving the first call from the scene, which was from a young girl explaining the details of the crash. Officials said that call was key to the center's quick response.

The award was presented by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS and the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Council. The center also received an award from the Senate.

EMS officials said they are proud of the prestigious award and recognized other EMS crews and state workers.
