Somerset County Church To Dedicate New Sanctuary

Nearly three years after three churches merged in Windber, Somerset County, parishioners are ready to mark their first unified project.

Parishioners from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will dedicate their new sanctuary Feb. 14.

They've raised over $300,000 since November of 2008.

First Evangelical Lutheran, Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran and Grace Evangelical Lutheran consolidated Dec. 31, 2006 to for the new parish.

Officials said the merger was by choice because membership had declined so greatly.

There are currently 202 active voting members and an average of 80 parishioners come to services on Sunday.

Officials are also looking to build a new kitchen and continue adding to their church.
