HOOVERSVILLE, Pa. —
Officials said when it's all said and done the Quemahoning Pipeline Project will carry water to 97 percent of the communities in Somerset County, but while Hooversville is one of the closest communities to the reservoir, currently tapping in isn't an option.
"Hooversville is probably the most in need of water in Somerset County. We spend a fortune on bringing water from Lake Stoneycreek," said Borough Council President Ken Karashowsky.
The project heads west of the reservoir and will carry water for growth and fire protection to communities across Somerset County, except for three on the eastern side Stoystown, Reading Mines and Hooversville.
County Commissioner Jimmy Marker said they've already mapped out other routes to carry water to Stoystown and Reading Mines. They have even secured money. Marker said Hooversville has been more of challenge, but they're working on three different plans to get water to the community.
Officials said bringing water from Conemaugh Township through Blough and then to Hooversville might be their fastest option, but Hooversville officials said they're hoping they will be included in the next phase of the pipeline.
