Somerset County Leaders Prepared For High Gas Prices

Commissioners in Somerset County said they have been making changes to deal with high fuel costs, and it's paying off.

They said the county's case managers have been asked to car-pool and they are buying more fuel-efficient vehicles for county use.

Commissioner Pamela Tokar-Ickes said they are always keeping an eye on the prices and trying to find ways to prepare for higher costs in the future.

In addition to preparing for high gas prices, Tokar-Ickes said a recent change from natural gas to coal burning heat at several of the county buildings has saved the county $27,000 in one year.
