Somerset County Prison Warden Resigns

Somerset County —

Following months of problems at the Somerset County Prison, Warden Tim Mapes resigned Tuesday.

Somerset County Commissioner Jim Marker said a situation came to light Thursday which prompted an investigation that forced them to place Mapes on administrative leave.

According to Marker, Mapes' resignation has nothing to do with prisoner abuse, drugs being smuggled to inmates or a prisoner who temporarily escaped custody earlier this year.

"It's a personnel issue and it's nothing that has to do with the care, custody or control of inmates," said Marker.
