Somerset County Residents Say Water Is Unusable

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. —

Clean water is something most people take for granted.

Two Somerset County families said the water coming out of their tap is unusable.

WJAC answered their call for help and investigated.

Joseph Luteri said his water tests came back with significant levels of arsenic and barium.

His neighbor Ken Friedline said he is in the same boat.

Per the Department of Environmental Protection, both men had to drill new wells, costing them $6,000 each.

They said the water rusts their utensils. It is brown, and it smells of iron.

They have to haul in water from near-by springs to bathe, cook, and drink.

Neither family has been able to get any answers about where this problem is coming from.

The DEP is still working with them.
