Pollution in Spring Creek was a major problem years ago and now there's new concerns, especially because it supplies drinking water to thousands. Recently Spring Creek concerns are heightened by the I-99 problems and keeping acid rock runoff out of the creek its being followed by many. Now the head of a regional sewer authority says Spring Creek has other problem spots besides the I-99 construction area. The univeristy area joint authority is involved in a unique project purifying waste water that would end up back in the creek for other uses such as a water recycling initiative. Spring Creek is the supply source for a number of communities throughout Centre County communities that are growing.
