EBENSBURG, Pa. —

PennDot, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania DUI Association teamed up to remind motorists to not drive under the influence of drugs of alcohol.

State Police said there's an increasing problem with people abusing prescription drugs and over-the-counter medication, which can be deadly behind the wheel.

That's why the Drug Recognition Program is picking up speed. The program consists of troopers trained to identify drivers under the influence of drugs.

Drugged driving is an increasing problem. Last year there were 451 crashes and 25 fatalities involving drivers suspected of being impaired by any type of drug.

Police said Halloween is the fourth biggest holiday for DUI-related crashes and they're hoping to prevent that.

This weekend police will be increasing patrols.
