State Police Worry About Lack Of Manpower

State Police are getting nearly $30 million more this year. While that's great news, troopers can't help but worry about the lack of manpower.

According to published reports, there are more than 4,000 state troopers, but nearly 400 vacancies. Additionally, by next June, more than 1,200 troopers will be eligible for retirement.

On top of that, there's an increasing trend in small departments in Pennsylvania. They are shutting down and State Police have to pick up the slack. In the last three years, there have been 58 of these instances.

With the extra funds in Gov. Corbett's budget, State Police will be able to train two new cadet classes.

Plus, more than 100 new cadets will graduate soon. The current class is set to graduate this Friday. After graduation, the rookies will have to spend months paired with a veteran and a year on probation.
