Statewide Job Outlook Good In Many Industries Except Manufacturing

Centre County —

The latest state labor statistics show that Pennsylvania has gained a significant number of jobs. Over 64,000 new jobs were added throughout the state last year because of an increase in opportunities in health care, education, tourism and service industries.

It is the second year in a row of steady job growth throughout the state. Despite those gains, jobs in the manufacturing sector continued to decline.

Bernice Duvall, a career counselor with CareerLink, says because of the boom in other industries, now is a good time for those looking to transition out of the manufacturing field. She advises people who are looking for work in other industries to look at employment trends, wages and overall opportunities in the area.

The bottom line, though, is that the employment outlook is good for those transitioning or those looking to get into the booming fields for the first time.
