JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Steelworkers in Johnstown are voting on a new contract offer, and negotiations have not gone well.

Johnstown Wire Technologies is one of the city's biggest employers, but on Friday, 6 News got the impression that many of them are not happy with the deal that's on the table.

Union workers from the wire mill started showing up at Ace's Lounge around 2:30 Friday afternoon to vote on the new contract offer. No one wanted to go on camera, but many said the contract was unlikely to pass.

Sources have told 6 News if this deal is not approved, there is a possibility of a strike. Union leaders would not return phone calls, but 6 News has been able to confirm that the first contract offer was rejected.

The wire mill survived the fall of the steel industry in Johnstown, and business has been good in recent years. U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-Penn., toured the plant and touted its success just days before the primary election.

The voting was expected to end at 6:30 Friday night. Stay with 6 News, WJACTV.com and WJACTV.com Mobile for continuing coverage of any new details.
