BELLEFONTE, Pa. —

A man is arrested after an early-morning fire Monday at a storage building in downtown Bellefonte.

Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver tells 6 News 22-year-old Jerry Karg is accused of setting the fire on Spring Street.

Fire and police personnel responded to the scene of a three alarm blaze at a metal storage building behind the Dollar General and Mattress World.

Police say Karg is being held at the Centre County prison on arson and other criminal charges.

Emergency crews at the scene had an immediate problem with numerous power and utility lines above them. Bellefonte Fire Chief Tim Schreffler said fire crews were able to control the blaze until the power was shut off. Firefighters' quick work also spared several nearby buildings from damage, officials said.

Both stores, especially the Dollar General, sustained some smoke and water problems but no serious damage, officials said.

A state police fire marshal was called to the scene. The fire was several blocks from another recent fire in Bellefonte which also remains under investigation.
