Streets Of Speed

6 Investigation

Today we took our streets of speed radar gun to Blair County to clock drivers on one specific road a lot of you emailed me about.

Those who live on 22nd Street in Altoona are fed up. Joe koehle says "it's a lot more traffic than when we moved in here 40 years ago. Plus the traffic is moving a lot faster." Your emails say you feel like you "live along a race track." "that cars come off the ground when they crest the hill they're going so fast." you're always "taking a risk pulling out, because you never know when a vehicle will end up in your backseat." Joe says "there is a very short visability about a hlaf block when you try to pull out of here. If someone is going 25 you're okay, but if they're going 50 or 60 you're taking your life into your own hands." Joe Koehle and his wife Kathy a lot to live for: 18 grandchildren. They've witnessed several accidents over the years and support arming local police with radar guns to get drivers to slow down. Nearly every driver who passed me was clocked going well over the 25 mile per hour speed limit with our radar gun. The fastest I clocked? Almost double the speed limit. But despite this dangerous road, the Koehle's, who are enjoying their retirement years, have no plans for moving. Joe says "that's right. I want to come out feet first. Hopefully not because of this dangerous road. That's for sure." Be sure to stay with Channel 6 News as we hit the road with our streets of speed radar gun. Unitl then, we'd like to hear from you. Email us here at the station at news@wjactv.com and let us know where the problem areas are where you live.
