Student Athletes Warned About Steroids, Peer Pressure

EBENSBURG, Pa —

After the recent publicity of the tragic outcomes regarding steroid usage, some coaches are taking a positive turn to what can turn into bad habit for young athletes.

A local baseball coach said kids as young as 15 and 16 year olds feel the pressure to be just a little bit better than their competition.

In today's age, playing sports is intense, pressure to make teams in high school, college and even professional leagues is harder than ever and at age 15, games can make or break your future. Justin Ambrisco coaches 15- and 16-year-olds and knows too well the pressure.

Ambrisco said, “It's when you find out if you are a ball player or not."

Because of the intense pressure, local coaches are preparing in case one of their athletes decides to make the wrong choice and turn to steroids.

Abrisco said, “It's a lot more competitive, even from then, and I can imagine 30 years ago, just to stay ahead.”

Coach Ambrisco said he lets his kids know there are other ways for players to enhance their skills without the illegal drugs.

Parents also need to remember not to put too much pressure on children because that can turn kids to illegal sports enhancements.
