Sykesville Residents Speculate On Identity Of Somerset County Skeleton

SYKESVILLE, Pa. —

Almost six months ago, Joey Lynn Offutt disappeared from her Jefferson County home.

Her Sykesville house was damaged by fire and a dead baby was found in a bathtub there.

This past weekend, Offutt's house was finally torn down.

Even though the house is gone, Sykesville residents haven't forgotten what happened there.

Now, residents wonder whether a skeleton found in Somerset County could be Offutt.

The characteristics of the skeleton do resemble Offutt.

According to officials, the skeleton is that of a female between the age of 30 and 40 and of around the same weight as Offutt.

Officials also believe the skeleton has been in Somerset for six months, around the time Offutt disappeared.

If the skeleton is Offutt's, one resident said the ordeal would be far from over.

"They would have to find out who was responsible," said Denise Dixon. "Because, whomever was responsible for her was responsible for that baby."
