Tattoo parlor owners ask for help finding burglars

EAST CONEMAUGH BOROUGH, Pa. —

The owners of a local tattoo parlor are reaching out to their community and asking for help finding the people who they said keep breaking in and stealing their supplies.

"It's very hard when you know you're the one that's out there working for the money and working for what you have and somebody just helps themselves to it, just comes in and takes it," said Amy Sandoval.

She and her husband Frank are the owners of Total Commitment Tattooing in East Conemaugh Borough. They said over the past month they've been broken into and burglarized at least four times.

"I've kept it pretty much quiet the first couple of times but last night they broke back in and pretty much finished me off," said Frank Sandoval.

The couple said they've been paying extra to overnight shipments just to stay open.

"(They've taken) 12 tattoo machines, a bunch of ink, needles and supplies," he said. "Everything I had is just gone."

They estimate their total loss is at least $8,000. Not only is it hurting the business they've built, but they said it's putting a damper on the events they hold to help the community, like their annual Tat for That fundraiser.

"We keep 10 percent for supplies and materials and we'll tattoo," said Amy Sandoval. "We're having nominations for families that need some help right now and we have a committee that will pick the family that needs the help the most."

The event is scheduled to happen in April, but the couple said they're not sure if they have the time or money to make it happen.

"It's wearing us down," she said. "You have these plans and then something like this happens and it knocks you back, then you get on your feet and it knocks you down again."

Now the couple that's supported the community so much is asking for help themselves.

"I want to know who's doing it and I want them punished," she said.

There are some other businesses in the area that may have video surveillance but the couple said they're relying on the community to keep their eyes and ears open. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
