JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

It 's been two weeks since fire destroyed a historic building in Johnstown and left one man homeless.

The cause of the fire at the house on Napolean Street has been under investigation. Police have now charged a local teenager with arson.

State Police Fire Marshal Timothy Frew said the person accused of starting the fire is a young man that Dr. Anthony Gergely had been mentoring for the past two years.

Frew said the fire started in a back bedroom on the first floor of the house, where Gergely had an antique rope bed with a foam mattress that was highly combustible. Frew said the 15-year-old boy admitted to throwing lit matches on the bed to see if it would ignite and it did, quickly.

Police said the boy has had some problems in the past, saying he has a fascination with emergency personnel and first responders. The boy's name has not been released but he is spending time in the Cambria County Juvenile Detention Center.

In the meantime there is a fund still set up for Gergley who did not have insurance to cover that fire. Checks can be dropped off at any First Summit Bank branch. Just put "fire fund" in the memo line.
