Tent Renters At Grange Fair Taxed

Centre County —

The $4.20 tax applies only to fairgoers who are renting tents to stay on site. The fee is like the lodging tax paid at hotels. Tent renters pay a total of $165 to stay in the tents during the 10 day event. The $4.20 automatically comes out of that. The tax; however, doesn't apply to the recreational vehicle owners who are also camping on the site. While some who support the fair are annoyed by the tax, many of the tent renters are taking it in stride saying that it's a small price to pay for enjoying the event. The fair which features exhibits, crafts, various competitions, entertainment and more runs through September 1st in Centre Hall.
