The Future Of N.D.I.C.

Johnstown Center Will Stay Open

Cambria County —

There's new information on the future of Johnstown's National Drug Intelligence Center. Congressman John Murtha is fighting to keep the agency open after President Bush's proposed budget cuts provide only enough money to shut the center down. "I guarantee it. It'll stay in Johnstown," Murtha said. The veteran congressman said the center has support from both the Justice Department and C.I.A. Murtha said he will make sure Congress appropriates the money to keep the operation opened. Over the past few weeks, Johnstown's N.D.I.C. made national headlines. An article found in U.S. News and World Report said the center couldn't get people to apply in the city. Murtha disagreed and said that's never been a problem. He adds the agency is ideal for Johnstown because of its telecommunications capabilities.
