Thieves Hit Blair County Habitat For Humanity Project

Habitat For Humanity volunteers showed up early Saturday morning at a Spruce Avenue house, only to find about $3,000 worth of tools missing. Volunteers said generators and power tools were locked inside the house. Police said someone broke in overnight and stole the tools.

Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware have been working on the house since August. The Brodman family was suppose to move in before Christmas.

Volunteers spent Saturday morning borrowing tools and materials to continue work on the house and two other homes in Blair County.

"I couldn't believe someone would come in. We're struggling as it is now to finish up all three houses and all of those houses rely on those stolen tools," said Santa Mosey, Blair County of Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteers said all of the doors were locked, so they're not sure how someone got in. Altoona Police are still investigating.

If you would like to volunteer your time to help out or your tools, call the Blair County Habitat for Humanity Office at 814-695-3090.
