Thieves Ransack Home, Steal From Elderly Woman As She Slept

Police in Cambria County said thieves broke into an elderly woman's home and stole $60 and two packs of cigarettes as she slept.

Kelly Coleman said the victim was her mother, 81-year-old Shirley Coleman.

She said the thieves entered the Franklin Borough home through a back window and destroyed many items. The thieves even slashed a water bed, which leaked through a ceiling. The Colemans said they feel unsafe in their neighborhood and Kelly Coleman warned other people to lock their homes.

"Neighbors would look out for each other (and be) out on the porch talking the whole time. (It was a) great place to grow up. Now it's scary … people coming in here; people terrorizing the neighborhood," she said.

The thieves caused at least $3,600 in damage and East Conemaugh police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to immediately call police.
