Thousands of dollars stolen from Moose Lodge

By Rich Wisniewski

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

The Moose Lodge local 97 chapter is located on a quiet road in Clearfield County.

Members there say they just like to hang out, socialize and have fun. Which is why they were so surprised to find out their building was the scene of a crime.

"Safe was broken into and all the money was stolen," said Mark Nichols, the 'Governor' at the lodge.

It happened sometime late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Members at the lodge tell six news, over five thousand dollars was taken from the safe.

Investigators can't even look to surveillance video because the camera was broken and the video recording system was taken.

According to Nichols, that recording system cost about a thousand dollars.

Many of the members at the Moose Lodge believe this was an inside job because the money was kept in a place well enough away for just anyone to find it. Not to mention the fact that the suspects knew where the video devices were kept.

"You know, you got a safe, where the doors are almost four foot by eight foot, I mean your not going to drive through it with a truck, but somebody got in it," added Nichols.

How they got in is another issue.

Police noticed that the glass to the back window was broken. However, the pieces were laying on the outside of the building, which  members say could mean that the whoever did the crime, broke the window from the inside.

"If somebody was outside and they broke a window, your glass would be inside on the floor, not on the outside," explained Nichols.

State Police are investigating this case and they are asking for the publics help. You can call them at 857-3800.
