Thousands of feet of wire stolen from former plant

By WJAC Web Staff

Police in Westmoreland County said thieves stole nearly $10,000 worth of industrial copper wire from a former tool-making plant.

The break-in and theft took place at Kennametal's now shuttered plant in Derry Township last week.

Police said the thieves were sophisticated enough to close switches at a nearby substation to cut power to the plant then broke in and took about 3,000 feet of the heavy wire.
