Thousands Of Fish Found Dead In Creek

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —

A fisherman at Big Yellow Creek in Brush Valley was the one who first noticed the problem on Memorial Day. He saw thousands of trout and other fish laying dead in the water. Others were jumping onto the land trying to escape the potentially toxic stream. Now the search is on to find out how this happened.

The Department of Environmental Protection has taken a sample from the creek for testing. They are trying to figure out what killed the fish.

The situation is not only causing concern about the fish, but also the human water supply. The Central Indiana Water Authority has stopped pumping water from the reservoir until further notice. It is getting water from other sources right now.

It's not known whether anyone has gotten sick from the water or from any fish they may have taken home to eat.

The owner of the Yellow Creek Trout Club said he believes this is not a natural occurrence. He thinks someone is behind the contamination. State Police are investigating.

The results of the water testing are not expected to be in for another two weeks.
