Thunder In The Valley Update

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Thunder in the Valley has been going on for 10 years and in that time organizers said they have never had the success they've seen this year. It was the biggest motorcycle rally in Johnstown's history, but will it bring in big bucks?

According to Lisa Dailey with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, there were more than 200,000 bikers buzzing around the Alleghenies last weekend, with at least 50,000 visiting each day.

The CVB recoups money by selling beer, official merchandise and rental spaces for vendors. While there aren't any exact figures yet, organizers said they are ahead of last year. However, they still aren't sure if their expenses will bypass the revenue.

Dailey said people assume Thunder is a big money maker for the CVB, but actually they are lucky to break even. Dailey said the more bikers who show up, the higher the cost to put it on. In fact, just bathroom cost the CVB more than $20,000.
