Travelers Use Popular Social Network Web Site To Find Free Lodging

Travelers are turning to a social networking website to find a place to stay.

CouchSurfing.com claims it is a new website that claims its "participating in creating a better world, once couch at a time".

"One of the really cool aspects of it is, not only do you get to have free housing or free lodging, whenever you're traveling around, but you also get to have more of a real experience," said Dave Long.

Long, who is from Ebensburg, recently returned from a trip to Germany.

During his stay, he crashed on a complete stranger's couch.

"We contacted her. We set up for a couple of days she agreed to house us," Long Said. "She took off work for a few days to take us into the city of Frankfurt, show us around."

CouchSurfing.com was started more than four years ago and is currently based out of San Francisco, CA. There more than 800,000 users from 231 countries.

"It hasn't caught on quite as much in America I think as is has in other countries, because of the European, bohemian lifestyle," said Long.
