Treacherous road conditions cause travel difficulties in parts of Cambria Co.

By Maria Miller and  WJAC Web Staff

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

High winds and snow caused treacherous road conditions and prompted some schools to dismiss early Thursday in Cambria County.

From Johnstown to Cambria Township along Route 219 was clear for the most part, but by the time a 6 News crew reached the New Germany exit, winds started to pick up. At the Ebensburg exit, snow covered the road and the commute became progressively worse.

The conditions made for a difficult commute in the area and some schools were running on delays, while others like Central Cambria started on time, but dismissed early. Several other school districts in the area also issued early dismissals by noon.

Cambria County Emergency Management Agency officials said there are no road closures or major crashes to report, but they said drivers should take caution if they must go out.

Though the snowfall wasn't significant – about 1 inch or so – the snow is light and fluffy, causing it to blow, which seemed to be the main source of travel problems.
