STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —
The bronze statue of Joe Paterno that once stood outside of Beaver Stadium was replaced with a row of trees over the weekend.
The trees were planted a day after the stature was moved from inside Beaver Stadium and less than a week after workers removed the statue of late coach in the wake of a child-sex abuse scandal that engulfed Penn State University.
University officials had the statue taken down July 22, less than two weeks after an internal investigation found Paterno colluded with other high-ranking officials to cover up abuse allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
Sandusky is awaiting sentencing on charges he sexually abused 10 boys, some at Penn State football team facilities.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, there is no word on where the 7-foot statue's final destination may be.
