Troopers Investigate Disturbing Discovery In Abandoned Apartment

Neighbors Claim Woman Left Behind Two Dogs, Fetus In Jar

SYKESVILLE, Pa. —

State Police in Jefferson County confirmed with WJAC-TV that investigators are looking into a possible case of animal cruelty.

A Sykesville apartment landlord in New Jersey contacted WJAC-TV on Saturday, after neighbors discovered that a woman abandoned her apartment her apartment, leaving behind two dogs without care for about a week.

Neighbors said the apartment is scattered with trash, broken furniture, food wrappers and dog feces.

The landlord said the woman skipped rent and took off without notice with her boyfriend and young daughter.

Two woman who discovered the abandoned apartment told WJAC-TV that they also found what they believe to be a human fetus in a mason jar on top of a television set.

"We wanted to see what kind of mess it was really in and it’s really just a nasty mess,” said Rebecca Pearce. “We found a baby fetus in a jar.”

“This is not OK; it’s uncalled for,” said Jane Skiba. “Leaving a human child in a jar. It’s not called for because I am a mother and it hurts.”

Troopers in DuBois told WJAC-TV that they are investigating a case of possible animal abuse but would not confirm or deny claims that a jar with a suspected human fetus was discovered.

Authorities have not released the name of the woman under investigation.
