First, our tester tried the putty on a hole in a piece of pipe. She followed the instructions and rubbed a small piece of the putty between her fingers to activate it. After wiping the pipe, the putty was applied and left to harden for the recommended 20 to 30 minutes. After that time, the putty held true to its claims and held the water in.

Our tester next applied the putty to a piece of wood, but the putty did not hold.

It did work on a ceramic tea set, but failed to repair a ceramic statue. The putty also worked on a rocking chair, but our tester didn't like how she could see the putty.

"Glue would be easier to put in the holes and it was a really tough time trying to push it together, whereas glue you just stick it in and it kind of sticks together," she said. "(It) looks a lot easier on TV than it is to do in person."

For that, Mighty Putty received a thumbs-down.
