Turnpike Reopens After Fatal Tour Bus Accident

DONEGAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

The Pennsylvania Turnpike has reopened eastbound following a fatal tour bus accident Monday morning.

Officials said the accident happened in Donegal Township, Westmoreland County, at about 7:20 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 95, between the Donegal and Somerset interchanges.

State police said the driver of the tour bus was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said there were 34 people of Asian decent were on the bus. Sixteen of those passengers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were not specified.

Officials did not release the name of the bus driver, but said he is a 39-year-old male from New York City. Police also declined to release what company owned the bus.

The Turnpike Commission closed the turnpike eastbound between New Stanton and Breezewood.

The highway reopened at 12:30 p.m.
