Two Hikers Found Dead In Somerset County

LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

It was a scene a hiker normally doesn't walk across: two people dead after falling from a cliff. But what happened?

State police say it's too early in the investigation to say exactly what happened and they may not even know for several weeks.

According to state police, late Sunday morning, a hiker found the body of 24-year-old Sara Baum of Greensburg laying on a rock. The apparent victim of a 15 to 20 foot fall. After contacting police, the body of 25-year-old Christopher Cardy of Ligonier, was found at the base of the cliff on the other side on the rock ledge. His fall may have been 100 feet. The two, former boyfriend and girlfriend traveled to Beam rocks together on Saturday. Preliminary autopsy reports say the two died of blunt force trauma as the result of their falls.

Video shows what appears to be blood on the rock from where Baum and Cardy fell from. All state police say to that is that evidence has been taken and further autopsy results are pending.

At this point state police say they aren't even sure if Baum and Cardy were the only ones at the rocks.

Police would like more information on this incident. They are asking the public for help. If you were at the Beam Rocks area this past weekend they are asking you to call them at 445-4104.
