Two Ohio HS football players found guilty of rape

By Melanie Gillespie

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Two Ohio high school football players were found guilty Sunday of raping a drunken girl, 16.

Steubenville High School students Trent Mays and Ma’Lik Richmond were sentenced to at least a year in juvenile jail.

Mays was sentenced to an additional year in jail on a charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

Both defendants broke down as the verdict was read, and both offered emotional apologies to the victim and her family.

"...her family, my family and the community. Those pictures shouldn't have been sent around, let alone even taken, and that's all sir. Thank you,” Mays said.

"I would like to apologize to you people. I had no intentions to do anything like that. I'm sorry to put you guys through this...And I'd just like to…” Richmond said.

Richmond’s father also offered an apology to the victim’s parents.
