Tyrone Seeks Ideas To Improve The Borough, Push Out Drug Dealers

TYRONE, Pa. —

On the heels of a blockbuster movie appearance, officials in one Blair County borough are seeking ideas to improve the community and push out drug dealers.

Leaders in Tyrone have partnered with Altoona-based Operation Out Town to create the Tyrone: Our Unstoppable Town community improvement campaign.

Michael Fiore told WJAC-TV that Operation Our Town is hoping to use the momentum from the recent filming of Hollywood film “Unstoppable” to boost community pride and increase awareness of the need to report illegal drug activity in Tyrone.

“As we put the pressure on, the pressure expands,” said Fiore. “We can’t worry about the state of Pennsylvania. We can only worry about our own backyard and that’s what this community is doing.”

Tyrone native Harry Sickler told WJAC-TV that he’s hopeful residents will come forward to volunteer and help reduce the amount of illegal activity in the borough.

“Not everybody can give money; we don't want money from everybody,” said Sickler. “We want some volunteers and people to get the word out to the community, their own family and their neighbors.”

Trooper Jeff Petucci said that Operation Our Town has aided in drug investigations in Altoona and other communities in Blair County.

“If they know that the community is watching and that they know our community is willing to provide information to the police, it’s going to be a deterrent,” said Petucci.
