Underground Fire Causes Manhole Cover To Blow Off

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

An underground electrical fire caused a manhole cover to blow into the air on Johnstown's Main Street early Friday.

The incident happened in front of the Community Action Office. Penelec officials said an underground cable caught fire, pouring thick, brown smoke into the air which lifted the manhole cover off the street.

Penelec was at the scene quickly on scene and has been working to replace the burned cable. A section of Main Street was reduced to one lane but no one lost power.
