Unfounded rumors swirl about Raystown Dam at risk of failure from heavy rain

By Bill Wadell

HUNTINGDON, Pa. —

Emergency Management Agency officials in Huntingdon County are trying to ease concerns, after a rumor started spreading on Sunday that the Raystown Dam was at risk of failure from heavy rain anticipated from Hurricane Sandy.

In a statement, EMA Director Adam Miller said that someone was talking to local business owners and said that there is a crack in the dam.

According to Miller, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said there are no cracks or issues at Raystown Dam.

EMA officials have alerted Pennsylvania State Police of the incident because of the potential for serious, unfounded fear in the community.
