UPDATE: 2 Missing Canoeists Found Safe, Aerial Search Called Off

KARTHAUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Search and rescue crews in Clearfield County found two missing canoeists shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.

The man and woman were reportedly uninjured.

Police told WJAC-TV the pair was last spotted from Tunnel Road around 9 p.m. Saturday, canoeing along a stretch of the West Branch Susquehanna River near Karthaus.

Karthaus is a rural community in northern Clearfield County, near the Centre County border.

Rescuers started looking for the canoeists late Saturday night.

A state police helicopter was called to the scene to assist in the search.

Search efforts on the ground and in the air were called off just before 1 a.m. due to heavy fog.
