Bellefonte police provide escorts

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. —

A Centre County Jail inmate was able to attend his young child's funeral Tuesday morning with Bellefonte police escorts.

Christine Spicer's 2-year-old daughter died Oct. 4. while the child's father, Joshua Steele, was in county jail serving time on a theft charge.

But because of today's Jerry Sandusky sentencing, the sheriff's department didn't have enough manpower to allow a deputy to accompany Steele to his child's funeral.

However the Centre Daily Times reports that Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver offered two of his officers so Steele could be there.
