Varsity Cross-Country Team Cut From Chestnut Ridge School District

FISHERTOWN, Pa. —

The Chesnut Ridge School District and their teacher's association made a decision to cut several sports teams to bring back three teachers.

The varsity cross-country team is one of the teams cut, but their booster club isn't giving up without a fight.

Booster club president Lisa Farnan said they came up with 80 percent of the cost and are asking the district for the rest.

Acting superintendent Amy Miller said the board didn't make a decision to contribute the money, but if the money is raised they'll allow the team to keep the Chestnut Ridge name.

The team has been successful in the past. Runner Jimmy Farnan said they were close to winning the district 5 championship. If they make it to the state championship, there is a good chance scouts will be there.

Farnan said, "We will be disappointed."

The booster decided to get the community involved.

They've planned a Ridge Runner's 1st Annual Alligator 5K Run.

It's set for Saturday, July 23, at 8 a.m. They'll meet at pavilion two.

To register, call the booster club at 814-839-4584 or 814-494-0576.
